My mom, watching Derinda with our kids, watching other great moms, they want the best for their children. Let’s apply MOM to your life and business.
Mindset, Opportunity, Map.
Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right. I have no idea who first said this. I have heard it credited to several people. It’s true and a vital part of a successful mindset.
So, where is your mindset?
I’m not talking about motivation. Remember, if you add motivation and a moron, you have a motivated moron who can do a lot of damage.
I’m talking about a mindset that can discover the opportunities in problems and in victories. We can learn from every situation.
The right mindset starts with focusing on serving people. Does your team understand the real reasons why people come see you?
Have you allowed today’s technology to get in the way of serving people?
What’s your opportunity?
Charita Brashers is one of the hardest working people I have ever been around. She is a caring leader who serves people. She also tells great stories.
In one of her talks when she was receiving the sales person of the year award, she told the story of two shoe salesmen who were assigned to the same area. An area where no one wore shoes.
The first salesperson called their boss an idiot and explained in great detail how there was no way he could be successful in this market.
The second one called their boss and said, “Send help, there is great opportunity.”
Opportunity exists in every situation. The key is training yourself to look for it.
The key is asking better questions because better questions will bring you better answers.
Opportunity is not a paved path to success. At first, you have to make your own path.
Got a map?
Be careful. You need direction. You need focus. You need a path from where you are to a where you want to go.
However, you can’t be so focused on your map that you miss opportunity.
I have to believe that as many times as Edison missed, he adjusted his map several times. So the key is to have a map, but don’t become so stubborn about a certain highway.
Having the right mindset regarding the right opportunity is key to staying on the right map.
So, how do we implement MOM?
First, start your day by positively feeding your mind.
Just as a foundation alone doesn’t provide you a house. This habit is not all you need, but it is the first step. Stop waiting for your boss, your spouse, your kids, your job, the world to change.
You have to change.
Stop making excuses. “I don’t like the title of that blog.” “I don’t like this speaker or that speaker.” “That motivational BS isn’t for me.”
Excuses are easier than changing your self.
Second, change your energy level.
I heard an interview where Colin Cowherd asked Jerry Jones if he was ever scared and had trouble sleeping. Jones said yes. I operate in fear.
To face fear, you have to feel strong and have energy. Get started today.
Third, take action.
The answers are down the road. If we don’t ever start walking, we will never find them.
Take these three steps with an understanding that we have to master this approach every single day.
Fourth, success leaves clues. Find them. Instead of tearing down successful people, understand the process they used and take what you can from them.
MOM always wants the best for you, but she can’t do it for us.
Let’s make it happen!
Have a great week.
