Our past experience, our perception of those experiences, and our standards and rituals will determine our future success, individually and "corporately"
If your past experience doesn't include what you need to achieve a future goal, you have options. One of the best options is to find someone whose past experience includes what you need for your goal and learn from them.
I've never climbed a mountain.
You have led groups of people to the top of mountains.
You have the experience, I should listen. My experience really does't matter because it doesn't include what I need to climb the damn mountain.
Makes sense to me. Does it you?
In business, we get really dumb. We say things like.
"They are a good person, but he just doesn't know (fill in your industry here)"
Just in case you miss the dumb part.
You probably have a lot of people who know the industry. They know the key words to throw around at the right time. They laugh at the industry jokes, They drink up at the company kool aid parties, etc.
In fact, all that knowledge has gotten you where you are today. This seem likes a good time to remind us all, where we are today isn't up the freakin mountain.
So, perhaps it's time to talk to someone who has been further up the mountain than you have been.
Maybe they worked in a strong sales system and that experience, coupled with your knowledge and experience, can create significant, positive life changing results.
Maybe they have the courage to implement.
Maybe they will ask you the question that clears the path to the top of the mountain.
Here's what they won't be able to do.
Talk in our terms. We may actually have to truly explain something without hiding beyond industry terms.
Tell us what we want to hear. They don't know what you want to hear, so they will tell you the truth.
Understand our stupid industry jokes.
Are you going to learn how climb the mountain or are you going to keep doing the things that you have done for the past 30 years and expect a different outcome?
I think there is a term for that practice.
Here's how I can help you.
I'm a student of better questions. Better questions will lead you to better answers. I don't know what I don't know about your industry, so automatically my questions are better.
It's the simple questions and answers that lead to growth.
